আমরা জানি যে, Pre অর্থ পূর্বে position অবস্থান। অর্থাৎ যেসব Word কোনো Noun বা Pronoun এর পূর্বে বসে অন্যন্য শব্দের সাথে একটি সম্পর্ক স্থাপন করে, তখন তাকে Preposition বলা হয়। সুতরাং Preposition হলো সম্পর্কবাচক শব্দ যা অন্যন্য শব্দের সাথে সম্পর্ক তৈরি বা নির্দেশ করতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।

Preposition কত প্রকার ও কি কি?

গঠন ও কাজের ভিত্তিতে Preposition কে ৬ ভাগে ভাগ করা হয়েছে; যেমন:

১. Simple Preposition:

শুধু মাত্র একটি Word দিয়ে Simple Preposition গঠিত হয়।

যেমন:

Rahim Swam at the lake.
I got a prize from a company.
Meena was sleeping on the floor.
Sabrina took a rest under a tree.

Simple Preposition গুলি হলো:

2. Double Preposition:

দুটি Simple Preposition একত্রে যুক্ত হয়ে তৈরি হয় Double Preposition.

যেমন:

They ran out of fuel.
She put the book onto the table.
I am coming within five minutes.
I can’t do this project without your help.

Double Preposition গুলি হলো:

upon	Into	Onto	out of	Within	without
next to	up to	off to	off on	throughout

3. Compound Preposition:

Noun, Pronoun, Adverb এর আগে/পূর্বে Simple Preposition যুক্ত হয়ে যে Prepositionগঠিত হয়, তখন তাকে Compound Preposition বলা হয়।

যেমন:

The kite was flying above.
Bring along your friend.
He stood behind the door.
Was Adhora concerned about the money?

Compound Preposition গুলি হলো:

on+by+up=above	on+by+out=About	no+long=along
by+fore=before	by+hind=behind	by+low=below
in+side=inside	out+side=outside	By+yound=beyond
on+cross=across	by+side=beside	by+tween=between

4. Phrase Preposition:

যখন একাধিক Preposition/word একত্রে হয়ে একটি Preposition এর মতো কাজ করে, তখন তাকে Phrase Preposition বলা হয়।

যেমন:

A car was parked in front of my house.
Today’s game was stopped on account of rain.
I gave the children water instead of soft drinks.
In spite of the mud and weather, he felt much better.

Phrase Preposition গুলি হলো:

5. Participle Preposition:

কিছু শব্দ বা words যেমন Present Participle(verb+ing) Past Participle(verb past participle) যদি Preposition এর ন্যায় কাজ করে তাহলে তাকে Participle Preposition বলা হয়।

যেমন:

Play according to the rules.
All information regarding the meeting was true.
The student was taken from one class to another.
Life is about Accepting the problems and finding the solutions.

Participle Preposition গুলি হলো:

6. Disguised Preposition:

কখনো কখনো on এবং of এর পরিবর্তে ‘a’ ‘o’ ব্যবহৃত হয়, তখন এদেরকে Disguised Preposition বলা হয়।

যেমন:

She went a hunting. (on hunting)
The morning begins with & o’clock. (of clock)

You will find his office just along the corridor.

After:

After an hour I went home.
Kamal arrived shortly after 5.
Shut the door after you.
Day after day he began to become mad.

Above:

This year inflation is above 5%.
We were flying above the clouds.
I rate him above most other players of his age.

Among:

I found the letter among his papers.
She was among the last to leave.
They divided the money up among the children.

Across:

She walked across the field.
There is a line across the page.
Karim hit him across the face.

Against:

His age is against her.
The evidence is against her.
They were rowing against the current.

Around:

He traveled around the world.
She puts her arms around him.
There he is coming round the corner.

At:

Our office started at 9 am.
Rubel meets her at the hospital.
How many people were at the train station?
The garden is at its most beautiful appearance when flowers bloom.

Before:

Sakil arrived before me.
Rayhan has lived since before the war.
Your name is before mine on the list.

Bellow:

She dived below the surface of the water.
A police sergeant is below an inspector.

Between:

This is just between you and me.
I sat down between Redoy and Popy.

During:

During the holiday, we do not have to study.
The old road is sometimes closed during winter.

1. At-এ/তে/য়/দিকে/প্রতি। Our class starts at 10 am.

2. Around-চারদিকে/চারদিক দিয়ে। There are a lot of hills and trees around me.

3. Among– অনেকের মধ্যে। Distribute the relief among flood affected people.

4. Along-বরাবর Go along the road and you can find your destination.

5. Ago-(আগে/অতীতকালে) I met him 12 years ago.

6. Against-প্রতিকূলে/বিরুদ্ধ্যে/বিপক্ষে। I don’t talk against any body.

7. After-পরে/অতীত কালে পরে। I will go home from London after 2 years.

8. Across-আড়াআড়িভাবে/ এদিক থেকে অন্য দিকে। He is going across the busy road.

9. Above-উঁচুতে/অধিকতর উঁচু। The sky is above our head.

10. About-সম্পর্কে/সম্বন্ধে/বিষয়ে/ব্যাপারে/প্রায়। I don’t know about him.

11. But – ব্যতীত/ছাড়া। I could not pass the exam but for your help.

12. By-দ্বারা/কর্তৃক/মাধ্যমে/দিয়ে/পাশে/সাথে/উপায়ে/অনুযায়ী/হিসাবে/ধরে। Don’t judge the book by its cover.

13. Beyond-দূরে/পেছনে/ধারে।His result is beyond our expectation.

14. Beneath– অপেক্ষাকৃত নীচে/নিম্নে। He got beneath 70% marks in every subject.

15. Below-নীচে/নিচে স্পর্শ করে। The examples are given below.

16. Behind– পিছনে। He is standing behind me

17. Before– আগে/পূর্বে/অতীতে। I learnt English before 10 years

18. Because of– কারনে/জন্য। I made a good result because of your help.

19. During-সময়ে/ধরে। Don’t disturb during my study.

20. Down– নীচু স্থানে। He got down the train and started walking for his home.

21. Despite-সত্ত্বেও। Despite his poverty, he is honest.

22. Except– ব্যতীত/ছাড়া।Everybody except Rahim went to the party.

23. For-জন্য/কারনে/উদ্দেশে/ধরে। I am going to London for higher study.

24. From– হইতে/থেকে(point of time বুঝাতে)। I will have been taking exercise from tomorrow.

25. In-মধ্যে/ভিতরে/এ/তে/য়/ভবিষ্যত কালে পরে বুঝাতে। We are sitting in the class room.

26. Into– ভিতরের দিকে। The teacher came into the classroom.

27. Instead of– পরিবর্তে। I took Physics instead of Chemistry

28. Inside– ভিতরে/মধ্যে।Please, come inside the house.

29. In spite of-সত্ত্বেও He could not get a good job in spite of his good result.

30. In front of– সম্মুখে/সামনে। There is a nice flower garden in front of my reading room.

31. Near-কাছে/নিকটে। I am living near his house.

32. Over-উপর দিয়ে। A bird is flying over my head.

33. Out of – বাইরে। He came out of home.

34. On top of – উপরে শীর্ষে ঘেঁষে।There is a book on the top of the shelf.

35. On – উপর/উপরে স্পর্শ করে। There is a book on the table

36. Off – হতে/থেকে। Put off your shoes.
37. Of – র/এর। We are the citizen of Bangladesh.

38. Past – গত/পাশ দিয়ে। Now I am walking past National Museuam.

39. Round – চারদিকে/চারদিকদিয়ে।The earth moves round the sun.

40. Since – হইতে/থেকে। I have been waiting here since morning.

41. To -দিকে/তে/প্রতি/কাছে/অভিমুখে। I am going to Dhaka tomorrow.

42. Towards –দিকে। The boy who is coming toward me is my brother.

43. Till -প্রথম থেকে শেষ পর্যন্ত। Stay in the room till 5 pm.
44. Through -ভিতর দিয়ে/মধ্য দিয়ে। A bird entered into the room trough the windows.

45. Up -উচু/উচুতে। He is climbing up the hill.

46. Until – প্রথম থেকে শেষ পর্যন্ত। Wait here until the rain stops.

46. Under -নীচে/নিম্নে/অধীনে। He sat under the tree. He works under me.

47. Underneath -তলা স্পর্শ করে নীচে। there is a cat underneath the table.

48. While – সময়। I hurt myself while playing football

49. Without -ব্যতীত/বিনা/ছাড়া। I can’t think anything without newspaper in the morning.

50. With -সাথে/সহিত/সহ/দিয়ে/উপায়ে। I went to Dhaka with my father last week. I ate rice with vegetables.

18. Accustomed to (অভ্যস্ত): I am not accustomed to this fashion.

19. Accompanied with/by (সঙ্গে): He came here accompanied with/by his friend.

20. Adapt for (উপযোগী করে নেওয়া): This book has been adapted for the children.

21. Adept in (দক্ষ): He is adept in singing.

22. Adopt to (খাপ খাওয়ানো): Everybody must adopt himself to new environment.

23. Add to (বৃদ্ধি করা, যোগ করা): The doll-dance in the exhibition added to our pleasure.

24. Addicted to (খারাপ কিছুতে আসক্ত): Many youngsters are now addicted to drug.

25. Adequate for (পর্যাপ্ত): The loan given by the bank is not adequate for the farming project.

1. Damage to(ক্ষতি): The flood caused much damage to crops last year

2. Deaf to, of, in (না শোনা, বধির হওয়া): The boy is deaf to his father’s advice. This man is deaf of/in one ear.

3. Deal in, with, out (ব্যবসা করা, ব্যবহার করা, বন্টন করা): The man deals in rice. He does not know how to deal with a customer. The Chairman dealt out the relief materials to the flood affected people.

4. Decide upon (সিদ্ধান্ত করা): We have not yet decided whether we are going to picnic.

5. Delighted at/with (আনন্দিত হওয়া): Sharmin was delighted at/with her husband’s promotion.

6. Depend on/upon (নির্ভর করা): Presently, the students depend on/upon guide books.

7. Deprived of (বঞ্চিত): He was deprived of education due to extreme poverty.

8. Desire for (কামনা): He has no desire for fame.

9. Devote to (নিয়োজিত করা): Students should devote sufficient time to their studies.

10. Deal with (ব্যবহার বা আচরণ করা): Shahid can deal well with the customers.

11. Debar from (বঞ্চিত হওয়া): He is debarred from getting a job.
